NEET - National Eligibility cum Entrance Test

The National Testing Agency (NTA) organizes the NEET UG exam annually. The NEET UG 2025, a national-level entrance test for undergraduate medical courses, will take place for admissions to 645 medical, 318 dental, 914 AYUSH, and 47 BVSc and AH colleges across India. This exam will be conducted in offline mode.

The NTA will soon announce the date for the NEET 2025 exam. Along with the exam date, the application form and information brochure will be released. Eligible candidates can submit their application forms before the deadline. After registration, candidates will have a chance to correct any details in their application through a correction window. Following registration, the NTA will issue the NEET city intimation slip, which allows candidates to check their assigned exam centers.

The NTA will also provide the NEET admit card to all registered candidates. This card can be downloaded using the application number and password. Only those with an admit card can take the NEET exam. The exam consists of 200 questions, but candidates need to answer only 180. The question paper will cover physics, chemistry, and biology. For each correct answer, candidates earn 4 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer, and unanswered questions receive no marks.

After the exam, the NTA will publish the NEET result 2025. The result PDF will include personal information, qualifying marks, total marks, All India rank (AIR), category rank, and 15% All India Quota (AIQ) rank, among other details. Candidates who pass the NEET UG 2025 can participate in the counselling organized by the MCC. The MCC NEET UG counselling will take place at mcc.nic.in. Based on the NEET 2025 scores, counselling will be conducted for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ), 85% state quota, deemed/central universities, private colleges, AFMS/ESIC institutes, AIIMS, and JIPMER.

What is the dress code for NEET 2025?

• What is allowed: half-sleeve shirts/T-shirts, Trousers and simple pants and sandals and chappals with thin soles

Customary dress code for NEET: Certain religions prescribe a customary dress code. Students who belong to such religions must have indicated in their application for NEET. For example, Sikh candidates can carry traditional Kangha, Kara, and Kirpan with them to the NEET 2025 exam hall.

Candidates must follow the given guidelines during the NEET 2025 exam:

• Candidates must sign the attendance sheet and admit card for NEET 2025 in front of the invigilator.
• They must submit the photograph to be pasted on the NEET exam attendance sheet.
• Candidates must read and understand all the instructions mentioned on the NEET question paper 
• All details in the particulars section of the NEET OMR sheet must be filled in legible handwriting. Care must be taken to ensure details are correct.
• Candidates must not talk to other candidates and should maintain silence during the NEET exam.
• They must not indulge in malpractices and avoid carrying objects, gadgets, and other things that are barred from the NEET 2025 exam.
• With the COVID pandemic threat still in place, candidates must also follow social distancing, wear masks, and carry sanitizer to the exam hall for NEET 2025. 
• The exam will be videographed, so candidates must ensure they sit upright and avoid any suspicious activity or behaviour.

Candidates need to achieve a score that meets or exceeds the NEET cutoff for 2025 to qualify for the test. This cutoff is the minimum percentile set by the MCI and outlined in the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (1997), which candidates must reach to be eligible for admission.

The qualifying percentile for NEET is defined for different categories and is summarized in the table below. To help candidates, the actual marks from previous years are also provided, giving them an idea of the score needed to pass the exam.

NEET qualifying percentile

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) manages the NEET counselling process online, which includes filling and locking choices. Registrations for NEET counselling 2025 can be completed before the deadline. The results of the seat allotment for each round of NEET counselling are announced online.

Candidates who receive seats in the NEET UG 2025 counselling must go to the assigned college for document verification within a specified timeframe, bringing the necessary NEET counselling documents. Seat allotment will depend on the All India Rank of the candidates, their chosen colleges, seat availability, and reservation policies.

The MCC NEET 2025 counselling occurs in three rounds: the first round, the second round, and the third round, followed by a stray vacancy round. Only candidates who pass NEET 2025 can apply for All India counselling. For state counselling, admissions will consider factors like domicile and residency. Candidates should verify if they meet the state admission requirements before applying.

There are two types of NEET counselling in 2025. The first is the All India counselling, organized by DGHS for 15% of All India Quota seats in government medical colleges and all seats in Central Institutions like AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, ESI, Delhi University (DU), BHU, AMU, and Deemed Universities. The second type is state counselling, conducted by each state medical council for the remaining 85% of seats in government colleges, state universities, and private medical colleges. Only students who qualify for NEET can participate in counselling, following specific regulations.
